Historical Event on 2/1/1942

17 Indian Division's were withdrawn over vast stretches and the British evacuation in Burma was the longest in British military history. The Division was to subsequently extract terrible retribution from the Japanese Army during World War II and to destabilise the Indian Economy with forged notes of 5, 10 and 100 Rupees.

8/20/1828Brahmo Samaj, the first movement to initiate religio-social reforms, was founded by Ram Mohun Roy (1772-1833) in Calcutta. Influenced by Islam and Christianity, Roy denounced polytheism, idol worship, repudiated the Vedas, avataras, karma and reincarnation, caste and more. The first session of Adi Brahmo Samaj was held in the rented house by Kamal Bose of Chitpore Road in Jorasanko area in Calcutta.

6/19/1995In an unprecedented move, UP Speaker Dhani Ram Verma adjourns the two-day special session called to prove Mayavati Government's majority in the House. Later, the House gathers, rejects the sine die adjournment and unanimously elects B.R. Verma (BSP) as new presiding officer to conduct the business of the House.
10/2/1930Jayasinghrao Mansingrao Ghorpade, cricketer (8 Tests for India 1952-59 with little impact), was born in Panchgani, Maharashtra.
